The EU knowledge test

What it measures
It is not a history test: it asks who does what in the Union and how decisions are taken. You sit it in your language 2, not your own — which is what surprises most people who prepared in their mother tongue.

What the questions look like
Multiple choice on competences and procedures

Short questions on the institutions, the treaties, Union policies and current affairs. What is measured is whether you know who decides what and by which procedure, not whether you know the dates.
The wrong options are usually real institutions with similar competences, so the doubt is rarely "does this exist?" and almost always "is it this one or the other one?".
Where people lose it
- Studying the history of integration instead of competences. Milestones come up rarely; the division of powers comes up in almost every question.
- Confusing the European Council, the Council of the European Union and the Council of Europe. They are three different things and one of them is not even an EU body.
- Forgetting it is in language 2. Preparing the material in your own language and sitting the test in another costs minutes you do not have.
- Leaving current affairs until last. Recent matters come up, and they are not in a manual from two years ago.
How you practise here
Here you sit it with the questions from the notice, its minutes and the EPSO interface. When you finish you see your score and, question by question, where your time went.
