Cognitive reasoning in the internal competitions

Three hand-drawn panels: a bar being dragged upward under the cursor, a tile held in the air above the slot it belongs in on a grid, and a figure being placed into an empty seat. There is nothing to tick.Three hand-drawn panels: a bar being dragged upward under the cursor, a tile held in the air above the slot it belongs in on a grid, and a figure being placed into an empty seat. What it measures

The internal competitions do not use the EPSO platform or its format: the test is SHL-style, and in it you do not choose between A and E, you build the answer. That is the change that throws people who arrive trained on the open competitions.

Official format

What the questions look like

Three families, and in none of them do you tick an option

  • Numerical: you adjust a chart to the value that answers the question, instead of picking a figure from a list.
  • Inductive: you drag the missing shape into the slot it belongs in, in a series or a grid.
  • Deductive: you place each person or element where it goes, from a handful of conditions.

Standing still, a drag exercise looks like a tick-a-letter one. In motion they have nothing in common: here a half answer does not exist — a piece is either placed or it is not.

Where people lose it

  • Preparing with open-competition material. The content is similar; the answering mechanics are not, and the mechanics are what costs you the first minute of every question.
  • Meeting the interface on the day. Learning to drag while the clock runs is time taken from thinking.
  • Treating the deductive items as a quiz. They are placement problems: without writing the conditions down you solve them twice.
  • Forgetting the format is set by the competition notice, not by EPSO habit.

How you practise here

Here you sit it on our own interactive engine, with the same families and the same mechanics: adjust, drag, place. The look is ours, not any vendor’s; what is replicated is the format.
